Al Jazeera English has launched on the platform of Australiaís regional pay-TV provider, Austar.

Part of the basic Starter Package, the channel will immediately appear in over 750,000 homes in rural and regional Australia.

John Porter, Austarís CEO said that the addition means the platform now has the widest possible range and choice of international news channels of any in the country. (The channel is not currently carried by metropolitan pay-TV platform Foxtel.)

Phil Lawrie, Director Global Distribution, Al Jazeera, said: "Australia is one of the most important English speaking markets in the world and a country with a strong appetite for international news channels. With the launch of Al Jazeera English on Austar we have greatly expanded our reach into Australian homes. We look forward to providing audiences across Australia with a fresh and alternative perspective on global news and current affairs."
