STV has announced that the UK-only restrictions have been removed from its on-demand service, with a new high definition show to launch worldwide.
Now available on STV Player, viewers around the world can watch the three-part Scotland Revealed documentary series about the stunning landscapes in the country. To celebrate the launch, the HD show will remain on the catch-up service for the next 90-days.
Most on-demand platforms, including 4OD and BBC iPlayer, are unable to make content accessible outside of the UK due to the restrictions placed in programming rights agreements.
However, as Scotland Revealed has been produced in-house by STV, the commercial broadcaster can enjoy greater freedom in making it more widely available.
Digital platform agency Brightcove provided the technology for STV's debut HD programme stream, after helping the Scottish broadcaster launch its first ever catch-up TV service in July 2008.
"Scotland Revealed is one of STV's key landmark programmes for 2009, and I'm delighted that viewers across the world can watch this stunning series in all its HD glory on the STV Player," said STV head of new media Alistair Brown.
"The world class quality of the STV Player and Brightcove's online video platform ensures that we can offer an unrivalled viewing experience of this breathtaking, high definition programme, which I hope viewers in Scotland and beyond will enjoy."
Brightcove chairman and chief executive Jeremy Allaire added: "STV was one of our first major broadcast customers in Europe, so it's been particularly gratifying to witness the evolution and expansion of the organisation's online video initiatives.
"We're proud that STV has chosen the Brightcove platform to support its groundbreaking Scotland Revealed series and look forward to contributing to the success of its future catch-up TV offerings."
