SingTel slashes Premiership charges by over half

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has cut the price of access to its newly-acquired English Premier League coverage by more than half for subscribers to its IPTV service 'mio TV'.

Access to games from the English Premier League will cost SGD 23 (US$ 16.44) per month, excluding GST tax, and will offer all 380 Premier League matches from each season. SingTel recently won the rights for three years coverage of the English Premier League, starting in August 2010. As an added bonus, customers who sign a one-year plan will also have access to the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League at no additional cost until May 2011.

“For years, football lovers have been forced to take up a basic package before they are able to watch the Barclays Premier League matches on cable TV for an additional fee," said Allen Lew, CEO of SingTel Singapore. "We empathise with their lack of choice and unnecessary expenses all these years. We have promised football fans that they will not be charged more than what they have been paying their cable operator. And we are delivering on our promise – in fact, watching the Barclays Premier League matches will cost them almost 60 per cent less."

SingTel celebrated passing the 100,000 customer milestone for mio TV last July, reaching the total within just under two years.
