QUOD launches new gay VOD service

By Andrew Laughlin,

QUOD has launched a new video on demand service for movies and TV programming aimed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender viewers.

Entitled QUOD.tv, the service offers web streams of LGBT-orientated films and TV episodes (deliberately avoiding pornographic content) for users at 2.99 and 99p respectively. It also features online queer travel guides, news, music services and horoscopes.

QUOD chief executive and creative director Colin Fallesen said: "We are determined to provide the gay, lesbian and gay-friendly community with high-quality entertainment programming from around the world, instead of the low-quality or pornographic content available elsewhere."

Fallesen also indicated that it is still "early days" for the site as more enhancements are planned to complement the initial content offering.

"This is just the beginning," he continued. "We are constantly updating our content and will be continually developing the site to meet the high standards our audience desires and we have deliberately steered clear of pornographic content to ensure we are accessible to blue chip advertisers targeting our high-earning and high-spending customers."

In addition, the company is seeking more third-party investment to drive forward future growth of the service and capitalise on the growing market for LGBT-focused VOD.

"Our ability to drive exponential growth is only limited by our funding," said Fallesen. "The business has huge, international potential, but we will have to build quite slowly until we get the investment we need to fund rapid growth.
