IP+DTT Popular in Europe

Nearly 13 percent of total worldwide IP set-top box shipments were operator deployed IP+DTT set-top boxes in 2008, according to an IMS Research report, released Oct. 13.
The report, ‘IPTV: A Global Market Analysis’ said that of the 1.6million IP+DTT set-top boxes deployed, 87 percent of shipments went to Western European TV households.
Uptake of operator deployed IP+DTT set-top boxes has been popular in both the U.K. and France, but it is anticipated that Italy, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands will also see an increase through 2014. As a global projection, IMS Research expects 25 percent of IP shipments to be IP+DTT set-top boxes.
In Eastern Europe, Poland and the Czech Republic will comprise 54percent of Eastern Europe’s IP+DTT shipments in 2014,” said Rebecca Kurlak, research analyst and author of the study, in a statement
