UAE telco du orders Motorola IPTV set-top boxes
UAE telco du has signed a contract with Motorola's Home & Networks Mobility business for the latter to supply its VIP series IPTV set-top boxes in order to support the telco's delivery of high-quality IP video services to its customers.
The Motorola VIP1200E and VIP1216E series set-top boxes ordered by du support high- and standard-definition digital video services as well as intuitive channel search and display, advanced browsing and instant channel change, with the VIP1216E model also supporting whole-home DVR with client scheduling and media sharing.
"We pride ourselves on bringing our customers highly engaging, world-class media experiences," said Farid Faraidooni, Executive Vice President, Commercial at du. "With Motorola's set-top portfolio, we can provide interactive access to the broadest range of HD content, as well as offer our customers superior flexibility, choice and control when they enjoy entertainment in their homes."
The telco launched an updated version of its IPTV service called 'du TV+' last July, based by the Microsoft Mediaroom platform and offering new features such as simplified search and display, instant channel change and time-shifting, and high-definition content. du had an estimated 81,200 IPTV subscribers as of the end of 2008, according to Informa Telecoms & Media's Intelligence Centre resource.
Roberto Kaufmann, Project Manager of IPTV Rollout at du, will be speaking at this year's IPTV Forum MEA event, taking place in Dubai's Jumeirah Beach Hotel on November 15th-16th.
