Hostilities start between BSkyB and Virgin Media again

Just when the industry was settling down to a new era of friendship between satellite TV provider BSkyB and cable TV provider Virgin Media, they are up to their old tricks again following BSkyBís recent advertising campaign.

The two firms are well known for making complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over misleading claims etc.

The advert in question on this occasion is by Sky and the complaint concerns the claim that consumers would be able to cut their broadband and phone costs in half.

Virgin Media complained that the adverts had not considered the cost of Sky TV and Virgin Media TV services, as the consumer would only make the saving if they subscribed to the satellite TV services provided by Sky TV.

The complaint was thrown out, but the ASA told BSkyB not to repeat the claim anymore.
