Sky News Enters Technology Partnership with EVS

October 23, 2009

Sky News has partnered with tapeless technology specialist EVS in preparation of Sky News’ HD service launch in 2010, the company announced Oct. 22.
The companies will introduce new technology and HD upgrades at Sky News’ Central London studio for local and international regions. Sky News will replace its current equipment and introduce a single tapeless solution through EVS, with Apple’s Final Cut Studio as the craft edit solution.

Sky said the partnership aims to enhance and improve its day-to-day newsgathering operation and output abilities on TV, Web and radio.
The EVS product is always in record, and this feature combined with ultra fast turnaround, will bring a new dimension to the way we can handle breaking news. An architecture that is flexible for news, allowing us to adapt quickly to changes in news contribution and distribution practices,” Bevan Gibson, deputy head of technology at Sky News, said in a statement.
