Numericable, Virgin won't bid for French 3G licence

French cable operator Numericable and Virgin Mobile France have said they won't be bidding for France's fourth third-generation mobile licence, a move that will probably leave Internet provider Iliad as the only candidate.
"Virgin Mobile and Numericable won't be candidates for the fourth licence arising from uncertainties about the deployment of the network," the two companies said in a statement.
The French government launched a tender offer for the mobile license frequencies this summer and candidates have until October 29th to enter the competition.
