KPN nears 1mn TV customers

Dutch telco KPN reached 924,000 customers for its TV services (including IPTV and DTT) by the end of the third quarter of this year, up from 886,000 three months previously, with its IPTV service 'Interactieve TV' taking an increasing share of the total, according to the company.

To enable large scale IPTV coverage in 2010, KPN reports that it has decided to upgrade capacity on its copper network to VDSL2 from the second quarter of next year. HDTV is also currently being tested and is planned to go live in the same period. While its growth in the Dutch broadband market continued to decelerate in the third quarter of this year, net line loss remained at a "relatively low level" of 55,000, and the company's share of the Dutch broadband market remained stable at 44%.

Total revenue across all operations reached 3.331bn for the third quarter of this year, down 8.8% year-on-year, whilst net profit increased 12% by the same comparison to reach 395mn, thanks to an increased focus on customer value and costs.
