Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) is planning to launch its reality TV-based channel, TruTV, in the Asia-Pacific region, from early 2010.

TruTV offers a range of “unscripted” programming, including reality TV but also comedy and crime shows. It is aimed at 29 to 39-year-olds.

The channel was originally called Court TV but in 2008 widened its focus and rebranded. In the US its tagline is “Not reality. Actuality.” Popular programming aired on the channel includes Black Gold, The Smoking Gun Presents: World's Dumbest..., The Principal's Office, Speeders, Disorder in the Court, Forensic Files, Operation Repo, Most Shocking and Most Daring.

TruTV is currently available in the US and Latin America, but Turner is keen to expand its presence across Asia. The company recently bought two Japanese channels, Mondo21 and Tabi Channel.

Ian Carroll, executive VP of TBS Asia-Pacific, said: "As with our new channels in Japan, the TruTV launch represents our ongoing investment to expand our networks in Asia and reflects Turner’s comitment to deliver high-quality, well packaged and compelling content. We're confident that this channel will develop a significant viewer base in Asia, as it has done in the US.”
