Virgin Media is to use its new Oxford Street store to offer the first public demonstration of 3D television in the UK. The London store opens on Friday (November 6) and is the 21st retail location to be opened this year. It brings the number of branded sites – a combination of stores and pods within popular shopping locations – to 44.

“Our store has been designed to give customers the chance to try before they buy, so they can get a great idea of the quality and range of entertainment and communications services Virgin Media has to offer,” said Peter Taddeo, executive director of consumer sales at Virgin Media. For the very first time we’re also showcasing exciting 3D television which I hope will give people a fun break from the hectic rush of Christmas shopping.”

Although Virgin has not announced any plans to launch a 3D service of its own, it has been testing 3D technology as part of its 200 Mbps broadband trial in Ashford, Kent.
