TV take-up cheers Magyar Telekom
November 5, 2009
TV services provide Hungary’s Magyar Telekom with a little cheer in what are otherwise disappointing third quarter results.
Its DTH platform, launched in Q4 last year, ended Q3 with 121,563 subscribers, while the IPTV operation saw take-up almost treble from 18,580 to 53.176 over the same period. While the cable TV subscriber figure fell by 1.9% to 409,197, the total number of TV customers rose to 583,936 (+34%).
However, blended ARPU for TV services fell by 7.2% year-on-year to HUF3,294 (€11.93). T
he telco’s IPTV services outside Hungary also continue to perform well. The one in Macedonia, launched in late 2008, had 8,301 subscribers, while that in Montenegro almost doubled its take-up from 12,521 to 24,581 in the year to September 30.
Overall, Magyar Telekom saw its revenues fall by 4.4% to HUF480.6 billion year-on-year in the first nine months of 2009, while EBITDA declined by 5.4% to HUF202.3 billion and net income by 16.1% to HUF67.4 billion.
