Eutelsat in court over New Tang

New Tang Dynasty TV is an absolute thorn in Eutelsatís side. The broadcaster, which supports the controversial Falun Gong movement, lost its Eutelsat coverage in June 2008 just days prior to the start of the Beijing Olympic Games, and the reasons for the loss will be argued out in a Paris court on Nov 17.

Eutelsat is clear and unambiguous over the ceased transmissions, which it says was caused by a major technical glitch on its W5 satellite. The problem with that argument, claims New Tang, is a tape-recording of a Eutelsat employee who freely admitted that the decision to drop the channel was taken by his Paris bosses. The tape was made by the Reporters Without Borders organisation.

In July this year New Tang commenced an action in the Paris Commercial Court asking for independent experts to be appointed to report on the technical position at Eutelsat at the time.
