Disney wants pay TV Everywhere
Speaking on the company’s fourth quarter earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger outlined his disagreements with TV Everywhere. "What we’ve heard suggests that interest in charging the consumer for greater access isn’t a priority and we think it should be," he added that, "if we go to a world of authentication we shouldn’t be precluded from offering our products directly to consumers," who aren’t pay-TV subscribers.
Disney reported its fiscal fourth quarter. Net income came in at $895 million for the quarter, an increase of 18 per cent on the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose by 4 per cent to $9.7 billion. Strong performance at the media division, which includes the ESPN and ABC television networks, helped to drive overall sales.
