Costa Rican telco ICE gets all clear for IPTV

Costa Rican telco Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) has received the green light from the Contraloría General de la República to deliver IPTV services in the country.

Permission was granted after the Contraloría approved a contract between the state-owned telco and local firm ITS Servicios de Infocomunicación worth US$ 19.6mn . The Contraloría had previously rejected the deal last August, stating that it had concerns on some of the terms of the deal, including discrepancies in the amount of set-top boxes involved, and other equipment, worth an estimated US$ 6.4mn.

The regulator has now apparently reviewed its position after imposing some conditions that ICE must comply with. The telco reportedly plans to start offering IPTV in June next year.
