UPC escapes Romanian fines

The Bucharest Court of Appeal has set aside fines on UPC Romania totaling 7.1 million.
According to ZF, the first of these fines 21.1 million was imposed by the Competition Council 2006 for allegedly entering into a cartel agreement with its main rival RCS/RDS in the take-over of a company named Hi-Fi Quadral in the city of Timisoara.
A fine of 235,000 also recently rescinded was imposed on RCS/RDS for the same agreements.
The other fines, totaling 5 million, were for the possible abuse of their dominant position by two companies in Bucharest Astral Telecom and Cablevision of Romania subsequently taken over by UPC Romania.
