Telefónica ups broadband speeds, HD coverage

Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica has started offering its triple-play service 'Trío Futura' to its VDSL-connected customers, extending the reach of HD content on its IPTV service, and revealed plans to add new features to the service.

Trío Futura has previously been available only to customers of its Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) connections, and will now offer VDSL-connected customers Internet download speeds of up to 30 Mbps. From this December, HD content will be available to VDSL-connected subscribers of Trío Futura packages, and from next year they will also have access to PVR features, network storage and multiroom services.

Telefónica is also introducing new offers and promotions to customers within its FTTH footprint, offering existing customers of its double- or triple-play services which receive speeds of up to 10 Mbps the option to subscribe to Trío Futura services whilst keeping their existing prices for one year. Through this promotion, the telco reportedly plans to maximise usage of its fibre network and reach the greatest possible number of customers.
