LatAm telecoms cooperatives consider IPTV
Over 300 telecoms cooperatives in Latin America are evaluating the possibility of launching IPTV over the next few years, according to a report in Argentinian news website Terra.
State-owned operators in Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay and Bolivia are moving ahead with their plans to offer IPTV, according to the report. In Argentina, the Senate has recently approved the polemical Law of Audiovisual Communication Services, which permits the country's telecoms cooperatives to deliver IPTV services.
Many of the region's cooperatives, which provide telecoms and electricity services to millions of homes, have already invested significant amounts in developing fibre-optic networks, according to the report.
