Disney triples EMEA animation

The Walt Disney Company is tripling its animation TV contents in the EMEA area.

Disney will put much more cash into its thematic digital channels such as Disney Channel, Disney XD and Playhouse Disney. The productions will grow from 2 to 7 a year, according to the company.

The European productions will be carried out from London by a qualified team of 14 professionals led by Marc Buhaj, SVP Original Programming for the EMEA area. This team will produce two TV series for Disney Channel, 4 for Disney XD (which recently launched in Spain) and 1 for Playhouse Disney a year.

Marc Buhaj said "It's very important for us to create quality animation which is attractive for children and their families either on a local or an international level. Part of our strategy as a worldwide company is to dote the Disney brands with a local profile in the different markets it operates worldwide".

The London production centre was created in May 2007 to push the investment and development of films outside the USA and in order to be distributed in Europe and the rest of the world. The centre has already launched several successful TV series.
