Eight broadcasters have applied for terrestrial HD capacity in Finland with a ninth channel put forward by the public broadcaster YLE.
The commercial broadcasters are Sanoma Television and the commercial broadcaster MTV3; MTV Networks, Urhotv, Family Channel, Discovery Communications Europe Limited, Viasat Finland and Turner Entertainment Networks International Limited.
Two multiplexes have been set-aside for HD DTT suggesting between six and ten channels. Concern over artefacts means that no more that eight will be licensed.
YLEís Administrative Council has decided to reserve capacity for the HD channelís launch, though it remains unclear as to when the channel might make its debut. As a public broadcaster the YLE does not need to file a formal application.
