A sea change is about to take place in Polandís TV industry, with the number of new thematic channel launches set to fall dramatically.
Instead, Gazeta Prawna reports, their operators will focus on trying to make existing channels profitable and thereby prevent their closure.
It goes on to quote Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, the founder and owner of Polsat, who says that its current portfolio of 12 channels is sufficient from the point of view of both its advertisers and viewers. The launch of its newest channel, a music service targeting young viewers, has been put back to sometime next year.
Discovery Networks, which already operates nine channels in Poland, two of which are in HD, is also unlikely to add more channels to its portfolio in the near future. Instead, it will concentrate on improving the quality of its existing services.
