TeliaSonera deploys 4G shoot-out
TeliaSonera has become the first operator in the world to offer customers fourth-generation mobile services, with broadband speeds up to ten times faster than its top third-generation network.
Ericsson will run the network TeliaSonera set up in Stockholm, Sweden, while Chinese rival Huawei is in charge of the one in Oslo, Norway. Based on how well the two players perform, TeliaSonera will choose who gets to roll out 4G services across its network.
Fourth-generation mobile networks are based on a technology known as Long Term Evolution (LTE), which allows much faster upload and download speeds and should enable customers to enjoy new services on the go such as high-definition TV, mobile conferencing and extensive gaming.
