The Eurosport Group has expanded into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for a new region-specific online sports news service.
Titled Eurosport Arabia, the web and mobile platform is available in both French and Arabic languages in 19 countries throughout the MENA region, including Egypt, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.
The service will start off with eight region-specific landing pages, expanding to a total of 12 in the "coming months". It also marks Eurosport's tenth local language news platform around the world.
Eurosport's chairman and chief executive Laurent-Eric Le Lay described MENA as a "strategic region" for the Eurosport Group.
"This dynamic market is expected to grow to over 268m mobile and 100m online users by 2014, which should create a $5.5 billion (£3.3bn) revenue opportunity in digital commerce, content and advertising," he explained.
"Today there is a very high demand for digital content and a low level of competition in the region and Eurosport Arabia aims to fill the gap in the sports digital marketplace and stimulate the growth of digital services in the MENA region.
"The region is home to millions of passionate sports fans using internet and mobile as their main sources for sports information. It is our mission as leading sports entertainment group to engage with fans around the globe. With Eurosport Arabia we are extending our digital footprint to the Middle East and sharing our passion for sport and expertise with the Arab world."
