SLBC celebrates its 84th anniversary today

The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) marks its 84th anniversary today. The national radio was officially launched on 16 December 1925 by then governor Hugh Clifford. Sri Lanka was the first country among the British Colonies in Asia to launch a radio station.

SLBC has become the largest broadcasting institution in the island at present. It has three Sinhala channels, two Tamil channels and an English channel. SLBC has the first children’s radio channel as well. SLBC Archives is the largest electronic library in Asian region. SLBC also broadcasts its services via Internet and satellite technology.
