American Idol, Dancing With The Stars most viewed TV shows in US Team

MUMBAI: Music-based reality shows American Idol and Dancing With The Stars have topped US media research company Nielsen's list of the most viewed TV shows in the US.

Nielsen has released a year-end look at the most popular trends among Americans during 2009.

American Idol that airs on Fox took the top two slots with a rating of 14.4 and 13.8 per cent. Dancing with the Stars on ABC had a rating of 12.5 per cent. Other programmes making the top 10 include NCIS which AXN recently acquired for Asia.

In terms of a single episode, the Super Bowl has taken the top four slots. It got a 42 per cent rating. The Oscar Awards which aired on ABC got a 20.6 per cent rating.

The top Internet brands are Google, Yahoo!, MSN, YouTube and Facebook. On the film front Transformers 2 came out on top having made $400 million. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince came in second making $300 million. the animated movie Up made $293 million.

The top DVD sellers in the US were Twilight, Transformers 2, Up, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and The Dark Knight. The top selling music albums were Fearless by Taylor Swift
I am…Sasha Fierce by Beyonce, Dark Horse by Nickelback and the soundtracks of Twilight and Hannah Montana: The Movie.

The top advertisers in terms of category were Automotive which spent $5.3 billion, Pharmaceutical which spent $3.2 billion, Quick Service Restaurants which forked out $3 billion,

Wireless Telephone services which spent $2.5 billion and
Department Stores which spent $2.4 billion.

The best liked TV commercial was the Budweiser one which scored 217 on the Likeability Index.

The TV shows which had the maximum amount of product placement were The Jay Leno Show, WWE Monday Night Raw, The Biggest Loser, American Idol and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

The top PC video games were World of Warcraft, The Sims, The Sims 2 and RuneScape. The last title was launched in India a few months back by Zapak in association with the developer Jagex..
