French radio group RTL, a subsidiary of the RTL Group, has announced a cumulated reduction plan of €20 million over the next three years with a certain amount of job cuts.
In an interview with daily Le Figaro, RTL CEO Christopher Baldelli explained that France’s leading radio station, has seen its cumulated audience decrease slightly (from 12.2% over the September-October period of 2008 to 11.8% in 2009) and will close the year with revenues down 10% in 2009. To raise its competitivity, RTL will save costs and lose some 30 jobs in the technical and general services.
The digital radio broadcast is also going to be improved so as to give more value to under-performing podcasts from the website. Like in television, the station will also let advertisers select the programmes during which their commercials will be broadcast.
