Ofcom has granted a broadcast licence for Nickelodeon HD, but the MTV-owned broadcaster said that it has no immediate plans to launch the channel in the UK.

In its licensing update published last month, the media regulator granted Nickelodeon UK a television licence to launch the high definition channel.

However, a Nickelodeon UK spokesman told Digital *** that the broadcaster currently has "no plans" to make the channel available, but will keep a close eye on the market.

"Nickelodeon UK is always exploring new opportunities to bring viewers the very best in broadcast entertainment," he said.

"Whilst we have applied for an HD license and continue to monitor the market, currently we have no plans to launch an HD channel."

The Nickelodeon television channel is currently available in the UK on Virgin Media, Sky, Top Up TV and TalkTalk TV.
