Chinese site snaps up World Cup internet rights

Chinese internet TV service Youku.com will set up an online channel exclusively devoted to the upcoming World Cup soccer tournament, after winning internet rights from FIFA and state broadcaster CCTV.
Live matches, highlights, stats and interactive services will all be available to Chinese internet users via the channel. Youku.com will relay CCTV’s coverage of the tournament, including all programming surrounding the event as well as the live matches.
There are some 380 million internet users in China, of which 240 million are regular online video users according to recent figures from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC).
