Al-Jazeera English was named 'Best News Channel' at the second annual Freesat Awards last night in London.
The Qatar-based news channel, which launched today on Freeview, beat the BBC News channel, Bloomberg, CNN and BBC Radio 5 Live to the accolade.
'Best Entertainment Channel' went to E4 ahead of BBC HD, BBC Three and ITV2, while 'Best Music Channel' was given to urban music network Flava.
Food Network UK was a very popular choice as 'Best Lifestyle Channel', and the Horror Channel took home the prize for 'Best Themed Channel'.
The BBC's Cbeebies won the 'Best Children's Channel' category ahead of the corporation's own CBBC, along with Kix and Milkshake.
'Best Shopping Channel' was awarded to QVC, while the 'Judges' Special Award' went to ITV1 HD, despite the channel's recent embarrassing transmission error for England's first goal at the World Cup.
In the viewer-voted categories, shopping channel Ideal World was named 'TV Channel Of The Year' and Planet Rock scooped 'Radio Station Of The Year'.
"I'd like to congratulate all the winners honoured for their massive contribution to Freesat's continued success," said Freesat managing director Emma Scott.
"We"re proud to celebrate the original, high quality programming that keeps our audience entertained and informed and we look forward to bringing viewers even more exciting channels and services in the future."
The awards, which recognise excellence in channels and radio stations available on the Freesat platform, were handed out at a ceremony in London hosted by comedian Ed Byrne.
