A full Arabic-language version of the Cartoon Network will launch in the MENA region later this year it has been announced.
The station will show Arabic versions of the network’s major international franchises such as Ben 10 and the Powerpuff Girls, as well as the locally produced 3D animation Freej, which has an existing distribution agreement with the Cartoon Network through its production house Lammtara.
“There’s been a great deal of demand for Arabic content in this region and launching a 24/7 Arabic Cartoon Network channel is a further testament to our growing investment in the region,” said Chris Groves, senior VP business affairs and managing director for the Middle East, Turner Broadcasting.
“The new channel will take our offering to a whole new audience and we are confident that with the international success of the Cartoon Network brand, our characters will be able to meet the growing demands for quality content from the audiences without alienating our existing audiences on Cartoon Network English,” added Groves.
In addition to its agreement with Lammtara, Turner also co-production and distribution deals with the Jordanian animation studio, Rubicon.
