A dispute is brewing in Bulgaria over money paid by TV stations to football clubs.

Standard reports that the former would like to reduce the amount as set out in a five-year contract. Its adds that in the case of the stations Pro.bg and Ring.bg, which are part of the CME group that includes bTV, the country’s leading broadcaster, the amount payable is BGN51 million (€26.07 million).

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) has confirmed that TV stations have requested a meeting with it to review the conditions of the contract.

Bulgarian football clubs strongly oppose any changes to the contract, with smaller ones likely to go bankrupt without revenues from TV.
