Television broadcaster Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) has gained a new platform partner for carriage of its soon-to-launch German HD channels TNT Serie HD and TNT Film HD.

Germany is the first country in Europe in which TBS is to launch HD services and both of the new channels will be added to the cable network of Germany’s third-largest cable operator Kabel BW in regional state Baden-Württemberg in autumn. The Heidelberg-based cable company already distributes TNT Serie and TNT Film in standard-definition in its subscription packages “MeinTV Komplett” and “MeinTV Spielfilm & Serie”.

TNT Serie HD and TNT Film HD will go on air on 11 October in Unitymedia’s cable network with Kabel Deutschland to follow shortly thereafter. Negotiations with further platform providers are underway.

The pay-TV channels will offer a 1:1 simulcast of the schedules of TNT Serie and TNT Film in high-definition. From day one, most programmes will be shown in native HD with the rest being up-converted.
