Spain’s national public broadcaster Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) has approved a new budget of Euro 1.2 billion for 2011.
Out of this figure the Spanish State’s contribution will be Euro 547 million, a reduction of Euro 35 million compared to what it paid for 2010.
However, analysts are predicting some trouble in the form of the so called telco-tax, which , as reported by RapidTV News, which is now in the hands of the European Commission (EC) who has banned the Spanish national government from applying this tax because it thinks it is illegal.
The tax amounts to 0.9% of the telcos’ total revenue, some Euro 250 million. The tax was imposed because as of January 2010 RTVE has not broadcast any kind of commercial advertising.
