Shine Group has today launched a new digital application for MasterChef featuring cookery tutorials from past contestants on the show.

Created by Shine's digital specialists Shine Vu, the MasterChef Academy app features two and a half hours of exclusive content designed to help users to improve their culinary skills.

Hosted by MasterChef judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace, the app includes 100 tutorials split around different areas of cookery, such as seafood, stocks, sauces, spices and desserts.

The filmed cooking lessons are given by contestants from recent series of MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals, including 2010 MasterChef winner Dhruv Baker and 2009 Professionals champion Steve Groves.

Users can also test their cookery skills in a 'pressure test', with exclusive new videos available to unlock should they be successful. The app is available to download now from the iTunes store at an introductory offer of 2.99.

"Grab this app to help you change your life!" said Torode.

"With some of the greatest winners and finalists that MasterChef has ever seen showing you how it should be done in this great Academy, it's got everything you need to improve your cooking skills, whether you're a beginner or close to getting your first star!"

Shine Vu's director of operations Chris Thorogood added: "MasterChef Academy complements the main programme and is a natural step for MasterChef.

"The production team have applied the same techniques and values as they do on the programme to deliver an interactive, stylish and practical app and one that if used will improve your culinary selection, preparation, technique and presentation immeasurably."
