UK consumers high on HD TV ownership, low on service take-up

UK consumers are the most likely to own a HD ready television set but the take up of HD services is lower than a number of European countries, according to a new report from communications regulator Ofcom.

The organisation's fifth International Communications Report shows that 59% of UK households own a HD-ready television set compared to 57% in the US. However, only 13% have subscribed to an HD service. This compares to 44% in the US, 43% in Japan and 42% in France.

Overall global communications revenue increased by 0.3% over the last 12 months but global advertising revenue fell by 13% to £254 billion (€303 billion). TV remained the largest source of advertising with 38% of the total, while the internet accounted for 27% of advertising spend.
