German home shopping broadcaster HSE24 wants to launch a channel in Italy in mid-2011. “The Italian market has huge potential. In contrast to the UK or Germany there’s less competition in the home shopping market,” said HSE24 CEO Richard Reitzner.

Italy is not the only country on the broadcaster’s expansion list. “We will continue to invest in Europe. In our view, Spain, France and Poland are particularly interesting,” said Reitzner in an interview with German financial newspaper “Handelsblatt” .

The channel, which is owned by financial investor AXA Private Equity, pursues ambitious targets in Italy. “We want to be profitable in Italy within two years,” explained Reitzner. “We want to invest €8 million in Italy of which €4 million are start-up costs.”

To keep the investment volume at a sustainable level, the Italian TV shows will initially be produced at HSE24’s German headquarters in Ismaning near Munich.

Italy is the third-largest home shopping market in Europe after the UK and Germany.
