Nec will invest USD 1 million to manufacture DTT transmitters in Argentina

According to what executives of the company confirmed over the course of a meeting held with the Argentine head of state, Cristina Fernández, the company Nec announced that it will invest USD 1 million to manufacture DTT transmitters in Argentina. Therefore, the firm will provide the internal market with devices and will export over the rest of Latin America. Nec is one of the transmitter suppliers of DTT project encouraged by the Argentine Government. A few months ago, the company had already informed that it would start producing in the country.

The meeting was also attended by the minister of Industry, Débora Giorgi, and the minister of Federal Planning, Julio De Vido. The production will happen in the facility the company has in the neighborhood of La Boca, in the city of Buenos Aires. The announced investment will enable the production of transmitter modules and plates, at a 20-devices rate per month. To such ends, the company started a process that moves forward in the local integration and that includes, in addition to amplifier production, the assembling of plates, welding, trials and inspection of such devices. NEC Argentina is a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, it has been in the country for 32 years and records a 243 employee payroll.

Harris, other big supplier chosen by the Government, has recently announced that it is analyzing the possibility of producing such devices in Argentina. To such ends, the idea is to replicate the model applied in Brazil, where the company has - in Campinas and Sao Paulo - a factory of low and medium power UHF transmitters. According to executives of the company, the effectiveness of the project will depend on the Argentine Government's interest. If so, the project will be carried out jointly with Viditec, its commercial representative in Argentina. So far, Harris has already announced the opening of its commercial offices in Buenos Aires.
