Acetrax reveals connected TV hits

Disney’s Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time is the most watched on-demand movie on connected TVs in Europe, while UK viewers preferred Sherlock Holmes, according to Acetrax.

Acetrax is the only premium movie retailer on connected TVs from Samsung, LG and Panasonic giving people to access recent movies on a day & date basis.

The company has released these user facts: 78.5% of all movie purchases were ‘rent’ and 21.5% were ‘buy’ (download to own). The most popular day of the week top watch a movie on a connected TV is Saturday followed by Sunday.

The Acetrax Movies App is shipped with all new ‘smart’ TVs from Samsung, Panasonic and LG (50% of all new TVs sold in Europe). After registering directly on their TVs viewers can order movies as instant playback on TV, or they can receive a copy for their laptop as well as three other Acetrax Ready devices (such as new connected Blu-ray players in 2011).

From Samsung’s own research, connected TVs will be in 47million European households by 2014. The number of ‘activated’ TVs is also increasing and Samsung estimates 40% of its connected TVs in the market are now activated. The complimentary blockbuster movie offered by Acetrax on first registration is being used by the manufacturers to help increase this number.

Acetrax is available in seven European countries (UK Ireland, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland). The company has relationships with major Hollywood Studios including Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, as well as Momentum, Diva, Constantin, MK2, Film Is Now and music companies Eagle Rock and Charly Films.

The Top 3 movies for 2010 so far consist of The Hurt Locker, Twilight: New Moon and Hot Tub Time Machine.
