USING METACAFE PLUGIN

How to use METACAFE (tutorial based on VTi 2.1 OE1.6)

Install metacafe manually because its not avaliable (at present) via the plugin downloads.

There are a few fixes posted at the bottom of this tutorial for video problems with some files.

This current version doesn't seem to have any options to set buffers or any other options.

Copy the ipkg file to you /tmp directory using an ftp program. You can get that here. (right click and save as)

You need to telnet to your box

In windows START>RUN>telnet {enter}
or START>RUN>cmd {enter} telnet {enter}
type: open 192.168.1.xx {enter} The ip of your machine

login to your box with
username: root
password: whatever your password is or press enter if you dont have one

Now do the following commands.

root@vusolo:cd / {press enter}
root@vusolo:cd /tmp {press enter}
root@vusolo:/tmp# ipkg install enigma2-plugin-extensions-metacafedirect_0.1-r0_mipsel.ipk
Configuring enigma2-plugin-extensions-metacafedirect
root@vusolo:/tmp#

Now reboot the enigma2 gui by a long press on the remote control off button and selecting restart gui.

The plugin will now appear in the graphical plugins menu.

Start the plugin and you are presented with a category list.

If you select search you are presented with a text input box.

Here for an example I entereed the word "cars", it will now download a list of search results.

Simply click OK the item you wish to view and it will start to play (curently in the vu+ solo there are issues with some video playback, audio is fine)

Playing from the set list categories is the same, select yorur category, select a video and it should play

ADVANCED USER INSTALL OPTION 2

You can get metacafe direct from packet management and install it that way. This method may not create a startup icon in plugins.

MENU>SETUP>SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT>ADVANCED OPTIONS>PACKET MANAGEMENT

IMPROVING THE METACAFE VIDEO PLAYBACK- FIX CODECS

You can install a few codecs for gstreamer using packet management

MENU>SETUP>SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT>ADVANCED OPTIONS>PACKET MANAGEMENT

gst-plugin-h264parse .Element parsing raw h264 streams

gst-plugin-mpeg4videoparse .Parses MPEG-4 Part 2 elementary video streams

These will help with the stream decoding of some files, although will not with all of them.

You must restart the stb.
