Sky Deutschland renews Formula One deal
17 Dec 10 -

Pay TV operator Sky Deutschland has confirmed that it has renewed its contract with Formula One for coverage of the 2011 seasonís championship.

The deal follows speculation in the German press about the future of Skyís coverage of Formula One, given the relatively low number of subscribers that the championship has attracted relative to the cost of the rights. Commercial broadcaster RTL also holds free-to-air rights to Formula One up to the end of next year. To date, Sky has broadcast the championship upconverted from standard-definition on its HD sports channel in the absence of native HD coverage.

Sky said it would offer extended coverage of the championship, uninterrupted by advertising and with several optional camera angles on offer to viewers.

Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of Formula One Group said: "We are very pleased that Sky is continuing its long-term partnership with us."
