European Space Agency (ESA) and Arianespace signed a contract for satellite launching Sentinel-1A within the European GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security). The satellite will be launched in December 2012, the rocket Soyuz from French Guiana Space Centre.
Sentinel-1A is a satellite of Earth observation sensor type C-band synthetic aperture radar. It will be placed on a circular orbit at an altitude of approximately heliosynchronicznej 690 km. Working within the European GMES, Sentinel-1A meet future needs for environmental management.
Sentinel-1A is currently being developed and will be integrated by Thales Alenia Space Italy . It has a takeoff weight of about 2300 kg. Since the beginning of 1911 Arianespace has signed contracts for launching geostationary satellites, and seven agreements concern Soyuz mission.
