Finally all Colombian government's efforts to choose the European DTT standard (DVB-T) have come to fruition.

The country’s National TV Commission (CNTV) finally opted for the standard following a long meeting of the Commission’s Board of Directors. Now the country can concentrate on bringing forward the transition from analogue to digital TV services. In-the-clear broadcasters will also now be able to digitise content on a cost-free basis. Also the CNTV will be able to allocate mobile TV licences.

The CNTV has also decided that the encoded video system will be based on the international telecommunication standard of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) , H.264 equivalent to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. This standard allows HDTV transmissions.
