Turkmenistan to launch new national TV channel

Turkmenistan has awarded contracts to four foreign investors to build it a new fully-functioning TV station, the Trend news agency reported on Tuesday. Winning bidders from Turkey, Germany and Russia will supply and set up equipment for the new national television channel as well as provide technical apparatus and new TV tower in the capital Ashgabat.

The announcement was made by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who did not divulge the financial terms of the contracts. The Turkmen Ministry of Communication offered the tenders in July.

Turkish company Polimeks will buy and install the audiovisual recording and studio equipment and video cameras, as well as buying and preparing mobile TV stations. The leading German electronics company Rohde & Schwarz will provide and install television and radio transmission and measuring equipment. The Munich-based company specializes in broadcasting communications.

The fiber-optic networks needed for the new channel will be laid by the Russian firm Prima Telecom, which will also install compression equipment and communication systems RRL. Prima Telecom is one of Russia’s leading specialists in the design and production of modern cable TV systems.

Turkish company Bur Elektronik ve Makina will provide with equipment for a new weather station used by the TV channel.

Plans are also underway to develop Internet facilities for the new TV station. The Turkmen Ministry of Communications said the new system will be on a qualitatively higher level than anything the country currently has.
