Freesat predicts strong 2011
As it toasts a successful 2010, free UK satellite TV provider Freesat is predicting that the coming twelve months will be just as good.
Data released by the company shows that Freesat product sales stand at around the 1.5 million mark with over 150,000 Freesat-enabled STBs and IDTVs sold since July 2010.
In 2010, Freesat added more channels to its EPG, increasing customer choice, and within the last quarter it debuted ten new channels including BBC One HD. It now offers 165 TV, Radio and on-demand services, twice the number at platform launch in 2008.
Among the highlights of 2010 was the BBC bolstering the capabilities of the free satellite TV service with an IPTV backchannel.
Looking forward to landmarks in 2011, Freesat revealed that Samsung will release a 500 gigabyte Freesat+ product and that Echostar will be launching a ‘sling loaded’ Freesat+ receiver in Q2 2011.
