Additional Asisat transponders serve up extra Dish
Leading direct-to-home (DTH) service provider Dish TV has inked long-term contract for additional transponders on Asiasat with ‘Antriksh’ to increase channel capacity across its footprint.
Specifically, the new deal sees the total satellite TV transmission bandwidth of Dish TV increased from 432 MHz to 648 MHz with the enhanced transponder capacity enabling Dish TV to increase SD channel capacity to over 320 channels and HD capacity to over 30 channels.
Such a portfolio, Dish insists, will give it the edge over rival DTH operators: dish estimates that its new bouquet is 25-30% larger than competitors’. The new HD bouquet will be used to target high income groups of subscribers in major metros and cities.
Commented Dish TV MD Jawahar Goel: “The addition of significant channel capacity in both HD and SD is expected to considerably enhance our offering to subscribers. We will be able to offer region specific content, enhanced VAS, as well as a substantially enhanced HD bouquet, driving growth of HD services.”
