French Rugby League LNR has claimed in a statement that “Canal+ group was offside” for the attribution of TV rights for the new Top 14 season.

Canal+ has been the traditional broadcaster for the event but has not granted the substantial increase LNR had expected.

The French pay-TV group would have made a bid under the €20 million mark a year. In 2007, the group had won the TV rights for all the Top 14 matches over the four next seasons ending in 2011, and for a total amount of €104.5 million. According to sport daily L’Equipe, Canal+ is not interested in full rights.
