Cool Latest Transfer Update at 19-02-11.

Ryan Giggs - one more season at Old Trafford.

GIGGS SIGNS NEW MAN UNITED DEAL

Ryan Giggs has signed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United.
The veteran Welshman had already indicated his wish to continue his career into a remarkable 21st season at Old Trafford and United have confirmed the deal has been signed.
"All I've ever wanted to do is play for United and I've been lucky enough to do that for 20 years," said Giggs.
"It is great to know I'm still contributing to the team's success and I feel I've got a lot to offer on and off the pitch.
"This is an exciting time to be involved with so many good young players coming through."
Despite celebrating his 37th birthday in November, Giggs is still making a massive contribution to the Red Devils' cause.
It was his superb pass that set Nani up for the opening goal in last weekend's Manchester derby triumph that keeps the Welshman on target for a record 12th championship.
He has already scorched past 800 appearances for the club and recently played his 600th Premier League game.
"You run out of words to describe Ryan Giggs," said Sir Alex Ferguson. "He is a marvellous player and a wonderful man.
"To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level in such a physically demanding position at his age requires a special person.
"He is still turning in man-of-the-match performances and his experience is so vital for the younger players in the squad."

Eidur Gudjohnsen - on loan from Stoke.
    GUDJOHNSEN SET FOR FULHAM DEAL

Mark Hughes has revealed Eidur Gudjohnsen is on course to secure a permanent contract at Fulham.
Gudjohnsen temporarily ended an unproductive spell at Stoke when he joined the Cottagers last month on a loan deal lasting until the end of the season.
The 32-year-old Iceland striker has since been limited to two substitute appearances, but Hughes has been impressed with what he has seen so far.
"We've got Eidur until the end of the season and we're pleased with him," said the Fulham manager.
"There will be chances between now and the end of the season and if he continues the way he has been in training, I'm sure there will be conversations to be had.
"I knew I was getting a good player given his pedigree and the quality I've witnessed in the past.
"It was never a risk. His last club didn't work out for him and I'm delighted he's here. He's added quality to the group."
Hughes revealed the rehabilitation of Bobby Zamora is on schedule with the England marksman on target for the reserves in midweek.
Zamora is close to a first-team return after six months out with a broken leg while centre-back Philippe Senderos is also approaching full fitness following his battle with an Achilles problem.
"Philippe and Bobby are training with the full group and are doing what everyone else is doing. They just need full games now," said Hughes.
"We had a game in the week. Bobby had 60 minutes and Philippe 45. They came through it fine so we're pleased with their progress.
"We'll give them more games over the coming weeks and see how they go.
"It's great for Bobby, the team and the club that he's so close. He's a big presence in and around the team.
"He's a very loud and happy guy and is a big personality around the place.
"We've missed that. For a long time he's been stuck with the medical guys and we've missed that interaction with him.
"He's back now and is very positive, as you'd imagine. He's looking forward to getting back."
Fulham host Bolton on Sunday in the fifth round of the FA Cup and Hughes is determined for his side to progress as far as possible in the competition.
"I've picked strong teams right from the beginning, that's what I do," he said.
"I like to have a go in the cup because there aren't that many competitions in which you have a realistic opportunity to have a run.
"Why give up that opportunity easily? We'll give the competition the respect it deserves and see how far we can go. We've done well so far up to this point."

Redknapp - backed for England job.
    LAMPS BACKS REDKNAPP FOR ENGLAND

Frank Lampard believes Harry Redknapp would be an "outstanding" England manager.
Tottenham boss Redknapp is the bookies' favourite to be chosen by the Football Association as Fabio Capello's successor and his stock grew even further on Tuesday night when he masterminded Spurs' 1-0 Champions League win at AC Milan.
Chelsea midfielder Lampard, who is also Redknapp's nephew, told BBC Sport: "It's for him and the FA to decide but it'd be nice if it were an English manager.
"At the moment, Harry's doing a fantastic job at Spurs and if he has an opportunity to manage England, I'm sure he'd be an outstanding manager.
"But, at the moment, we have to play for Capello and we have to win something."
Lampard, who captained his country to victory in Denmark last week, admitted the only way to exorcise the ghost of last summer's World Cup debacle would be for England to qualify for and perform at next summer's European Championships.
"Since the World Cup, we've had good and not so good results," he said.
"We haven't turned the corner yet. That is a process and takes time.
"When we reach the European Championships and do better than we did at the World Cup then we can say we have."

Roque Santa Cruz - on loan from Manchester City.
KEAN REVEALS FEARS OVER STAR DUO

Blackburn boss Steve Kean fears the club may not be able to afford to sign loan duo Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones permanently.
The pair moved to Ewood Park on temporary deals in January and Kean had hoped to negotiate prices with their parent clubs for summer transfers.
Blackburn want to re-sign Paraguay striker Santa Cruz, 29, from Manchester City two years after selling him to the Eastlands outfit for 17.5million while American midfielder Jones, also 29, is contracted to Schalke.
Kean told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We tried to fix a price for Roque and the same for Jermaine because we thought they would do well but we couldn't fix a price.
"We were confident they would do well but obviously if they do really well now then the price becomes too much.
"We tried to get a price fixed but the parent club wouldn't allow that and we just have to get on with it."

Mourinho - happy at Real Madrid.
    MOURINHO LOOKS TO NEXT SEASON

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has high hopes for his side next season, admitting the club is now moving "in the same direction" after his spat with general manager Jorge Valdano.
Mourinho and club legend Valdano fell out early this season and reportedly had disagreements over various issues but tension has eased in recent weeks.
The team, meanwhile, managed to cut Barcelona's lead at the top of La Liga to five points last weekend and while the Portuguese coach is still aiming for success on three fronts this season, he believes next year will be even better.
"The natural tendency is for us to win something and initiate a cycle that we hope will produce more victories," he told Cadena Cope.
"But my hopes are a lot more for my team next year than this season."
As for boardroom relations, Mourinho said: "Today I see the club in the same direction as me.
"We have the same thought, the same philosophy, there is much more empathy, because the personal empathy has always been very good with the president (Florentino Perez) and Jose Angel (Sanchez, director general)."

    Fabregas - linked with Real.
    ADEBAYOR WOULD WELCOME CESC

Emmanuel Adebayor feels former team-mate Cesc Fabregas would be an ideal signing for Real Madrid.
The Togolese striker is currently on loan at the Spanish giants from Manchester City.
That deal will keep him at Santiago Bernabeu until the end of the season, when Real will have the option to make the move permanent.
Adebayor is hoping his association with the club will be extended, but has also given his take on other possible summer arrivals.
Speculation has suggested that Arsenal skipper Fabregas, a long-standing target for Barcelona, could figure on Real's radar.
Having played with the World Cup winner during his time with the Gunners, Adebayor is well aware of what Fabregas has to offer.
He believes the Spain international would be a hit in Madrid and can understand why Real are already being linked with a big-money approach.
"I had the chance to play with Cesc for some years and I would love to have him here as a team-mate," Adebayor said.
"He is a great player and a great person. If he came to Real Madrid he would be very happy. He would be a great acquisition for the team."

    Abdi Ibrahim - loan extended.
IBRAHIM WITH IRON FOR REST OF SEASON

Scunthorpe have been boosted after Abdi Ibrahim's loan from Manchester City was extended until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old moved to Glanford Park for a month initially but has impressed boss Ian Baraclough enough to stay for the rest of 2010/11.
The Norwegian midfielder has made four appearances for the Iron and is now set to help in their bid to stay in the Championship, which was boosted by a win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

    Ranieri - under pressure.
    RANIERI WON'T QUIT ROMA

Claudio Ranieri insists he has no intention of resigning as Roma coach following their 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.
The Giallorossi were booed off the pitch after Shakhtar battled back from a goal down to put themselves in pole position for a place in the quarter-finals.
Defeat leaves Roma's season hanging by a thread after back-to-back losses to Inter Milan and Napoli ended any lingering title hopes, but a defiant Ranieri is adamant he will not quit.
"No, I'm not even thinking of it," said the former Chelsea boss. "Do you see a team in crisis? I don't see a team in crisis, I see a team that is playing, fighting, and creating many chances.
"We played very well and I have nothing to reproach the players for despite losing."

"You can't just look at the result when you evaluate the game, you also have to look at the other team.
"They topped their group and beat Arsenal. This is a great team with great players."

    DUTCH FA PROBES CHELSEA DEAL

The Dutch Football Association are looking into Chelsea's signing of highly-rated teenager Nathan Ake.
It emerged before Christmas that the Blues had agreed a deal to bring in the centre-back, who has come through the youth ranks at Feyenoord.
However, the move has sparked controversy as Ake is still only 15 and there are strict rules in Holland against players having agents until they are 16.
The role played by agent Dan Kramp of the Forza Fides agency has therefore come under scrutiny, with reports suggesting he took Ake to London over the festive period to finalise the transfer.
Dutch PFA spokesman Danny Hesp said in The Sun: "The rules clearly state that agents can't do anything with children under 16.
"Yet this agent turns up with a 15-year-old at Chelsea so the FA has got to tackle this issue."
The Dutch FA has confirmed the matter will now be investigated, with Ake set to turn 16 on Friday.
A spokesman said: "It's a transfer involving a player who is not yet 16 so our integrity unit is going to take a look at it."
Chelsea have responded by saying they worked closely with Feyenoord throughout the negotiations, insisting their dealings with the Dutch club were above board.
A Blues spokesman said: "We've kept Feyenoord abreast of our interest from the very beginning and as a result have agreed terms with the club for the player's transfer to Chelsea in July."
