OSN goes violently 3D
by Chris Newbould on Mar 21, 2011

OSN is set to break new ground this month with the first-time ever broadcast of UFC action in 3D.

UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship, and features two grown men brutally bludgeoning each other. This world first event will witness the highly-anticipated card headlined by a welterweight clash between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann and will be available free on-demand to OSN SHOWBOX HD subscribers from Wednesday, March 23rd through to Monday, 28th March.

This unique 3D telecast features a separate 3D production crew and equipment from the traditional HD production. The telecast also includes a separate announce team, as veteran play-by-play voice Todd Harris will team up with UFC featherweight star Kenny Florian to call all of the night’s action.

Multiple 3D cameras will be placed strategically around the Octagon giving viewers access to some new camera angles not usually seen during previous UFC 2D telecasts. The 3D telecast is available to OSN SHOWBOX HD subscribers with 3D-ready television sets through the OSN On Demand service which offers subscribers FREE access to over 1000 movies and 52 Series in full HD quality and Dolby Digital sound throughout the year.

Andy Warkman, Head of Sport of OSN - Orbit Showtime Network said: “We are really thrilled to broadcast UFC events in 3D in the region, we see UFC 3D as ‘Event TV’, an opportunity for our customers to share an incredible visual experience in their home with other UFC fans. UFC is hugely popular and seeing the event in 3D will enable fans to enjoy a new immersive viewing experience.”
