Network Broadcast launches its new smaller STB
The Argentine integrator Network Broadcast launched its Smart STB, a 15-centimeter wide, 4-centimeter tall and 9,5-centimeter long device fitted with MPEG2 SD technology targeted to Latin American cable operators. The device "is half the size normally used; it started being marketed a month ago and is already installed in some clients of the region", Javier Lorenzo, the company's Commercial Director, told NexTV Latam.
"Many operators have requested STB size reduction but keeping the same features, so we ended up developing this product given the market requirements", Lorenzo explained. According to the executive, Smart line is fitted with an USB port aimed at recording programs in an external memory, among other functions. Additionally, it offers an external source that can be easily changed. The device is also fitted with a new friendlier interface and a security mechanism that avoids the accidental expulsion of the smart card. Lorenzo pointed out that the new STB can utilize many of the main CAS providers. The device was manufactured by Sandmartin Group, Network Broadcast's partner in Latin America.
"In my opinion, all the operators who have been using Silver and Gold STBs will turn to this new product", the executive added. Thanks to this and other developments, Network Broadcast is planning to close 2011 with a million devices sold in the region.
